A BRIEF GUIDE
ZClad Natural Stone Cladding Ltd supplies ZClad™ natural stone cladding to a wide range of clients nationwide, including designers, architects, and contractors.
We have included a brief guide on some things you'll need to know, when installing the ZClad™ range of decorative wall cladding products. When installed properly, this provides a fantastic finish that will make the walls of any building stand out. Based in Enstone, Oxfordshire, we can deliver this to clients anywhere across the UK.
1
CALCULATING QUANTITIES
ZClad™ comes in a box, each box covers an area of one third of a square metre.
Ensure you have enough panels to cover the area you intend to clad. To do this simply measure the horizontal and vertical dimensions, multiply these two figures together and then add on 10% to cover wastage and cutting.
All you need are a few basic hand and power tools and an adhesive to apply the panels to the wall.
2
MIX THE ADHESIVE
Mix the adhesive either by hand or using a power mixer, making enough to do a small area at a time. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions, ideally the mixture will stick to a trowel but can be flicked off easily.
3
CREATING THE BASELINE
It is important that your first course of cladding is level, it will be harder to correct errors later. Working from some affixed baton is recommended. Use packing pieces if necessary.
4
CORNERS AND WALLING
Always start the cladding at a corner and begin by applying a 2-3mm skim coat to the immediate area to be clad. This should help smooth out any rough imperfections whilst also ensuring the strongest bond between the substrate and the panel. Offer the panel to the wall first to ensure it fits.
Each ZClad™ panel should be “buttered” with adhesive to ensure the whole back of the panel is covered and this should be applied using a 10mm notched trowel. Push the panel firmly into place using a rubber mallet and complete the corners at either end of the course before working to the centre to ensure that any cut edges are hidden.
5
CUTTING
The panels can be cut using either a handheld angle grinder or a versatile wet saw; however you may find it easier to use a cutting bench. To avoid waste measure the panels accurately cutting to a 'Z' shape to maintain the seamless pattern.
6
FIXING CLIP
The ZClad™ panels come with an embedded mechanical fixing clip that can be easily screwed to the masonry substrate behind.
The use of these fixing clips is always recommended for walls over 2 metres in height.
